Summary: Sal and her grandparents take a trip to retrace the route that Sal's mother took when she disappeared years earlier. During the long hours of driving, Sal tells the story of her friend Phoebe Winterbottom, whose mother has also left.
Evaluation: This book won the 1995 Newbery Award and is a quality read for young adults. Sal has to grapple with the meanings of love and family while reliving Phoebe's story with her grandparents.
